Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love baking chocolate chip cookies. My mother made cookies often when we were young and when we have children I plan to carry on the tradition. I usually bake my mom’s recipe from Good Housekeeping. The cookies are good but they always seem to flatten out. So tonight I tried a new recipe from our friends Mark and Shannon. This recipe calls for crisco which keeps the cookies puffy and I have to admit they taste better too! Sorry, Mom.

2 1/4 c. flour

1 tsp salt (& extra dash – optional)

1 tsp baking soda

3/4 c. brown sugar

3/4 c. gran sugar

1/2 c. butter

1/2 c. crisco

1 tsp vanilla (extra dash)

2 eggs

1 pkg chocolate chips (1/2 semi sweet, 1/2 milk)

Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Add the remaining ingredients. Bake at 375F for 7-8 minutes. For larger cookies use an ice cream scoop and bake for 9 – 10 minutes. Store in an airtight container with a slice of bread (it keeps them from drying out as quickly).
